Goddess Mahagauri is worshipped on the grand occasion of Maha Ashtami. According to sacred lore, due to thousands of years of severe penance in the wilderness, Goddess Parvati's skin had turned dark and weathered. When Lord Shiva was pleased with her penance, he bathed her in the sacred waters of the celestial Ganga, whereupon her skin regained dazzling, pristine radiance like a white conch shell, jasmine flower, or moonlit snow. Depicted with four arms, dressed in pure white silk, she holds a trident and a Damaru (sacred drum), riding a white bull. Worshipping Mahagauri washes away all past karmic impurities and bestows absolute serenity, optimism, and spiritual clarity.
