Adhyaya 6: Slaying of Dhumralochana by Humkara
Enraged by Devi’s refusal, Shumbha dispatches Dhumralochana. With a single divine roar of "HUM", the Goddess incinerates the demon general instantly while Her lion decimates his army.
Adhyaya 7: Emergence of Kali & Slaying of Chanda-Munda (Chamunda)
From the brow of Devi springs the terrifying Goddess Kali, who devours demon legions, severs the heads of Chanda and Munda, earning the eternal title of Chamunda.
Adhyaya 8: Manifestation of the Sapta Matrikas & Raktabija Vadha
The Sapta Matrikas manifest from the Devas’ powers to battle Raktabija. Kali opens Her vast mouth and laps up every droplet of the demon’s blood before it touches the earth, vanquishing him.
Adhyaya 9: Slaying of Nishumbha
Grieved by the loss of his commanders, Nishumbha launches a fierce counter-assault, but the Goddess pierces his heart with a divine dart and slays him on the battlefield.
Adhyaya 10: Annihilation of Shumbha
When Shumbha accuses Her of relying on others, Devi absorbs all the Matrikas into Her solitary form, proclaiming "I alone exist in this universe!" She hurls Shumbha to earth and ends his tyranny.
Adhyaya 11: Narayani Stuti (Praise of the Supreme Goddess)
The celestial realms erupt in joy. The gods chant the immortal Narayani Stuti ("Sarva Mangala Mangalye... Narayani Namostute"). Devi promises to incarnate across future yugas whenever Adharma arises.
Adhyaya 12: Phala Shruti (Merits of Chandi Recitation)
The Goddess Herself enumerates the immense spiritual, psychological, and material fruits of reciting and listening to the Devi Mahatmyam during Ashtami, Chaturdashi, Navami, and Navaratri.
Adhyaya 13: Bestowal of Boons to Suratha & Samadhi
King Suratha and merchant Samadhi perform intense tapasya on the riverbank. Devi appears in resplendent form, blessing Suratha to become Savarni Manu in the next Manvantara, and granting Samadhi supreme Brahma-Jnana.
